Overview

The Sanderson sisters return to Salem for the first time in 29 years. Greeted by a new set of teens and the Salem Magic Shoppe caretaker, Winifred & Co. are in search for power and immortality. The kind that only their beloved book can provide.

The familiar lines borrowed from the 1993 original felt forced until the rhythm of the movie set in. The Sanderson sisters trying to figure out that the black river is actually a road is funnier than them trying to figure out Alexa. But it is all in good fun. The story could be stronger, but the glittery Disney magic may make up for it on an almost-bored Friday night.

Power On The Brain

Money is recognized as a form of power, and most insist that love is stronger than power. In fact, certain areas of the pre-frontal cortex are activated when both monetary and social incentives are offered. Yet when given an ultimatum, people usually forgo love for money or power. Winnie is willing to wager her sisters in her greed for power, but is overcome with sadness in the reality of losing them. Neural circuits that process social interactions are altered during depression that may have arisen during a loss of power.

Bottom Line

Hocus Pocus 2 felt like the movie was made to satisfy the fans and put an end to it in a very gentle way with a moral message. It’s not real life, but neither are powerful witches. Right?
