Tiptoeing Through the Tulips: Spring Summer Beauty with Hermès

Let go of the heaviness amassed over Winter with brilliant nails and lips.

Previously, our Dosha Dressing series provided guidance on how to temper strong characteristics before physical and emotional instability ensues. Now it is time to maximize your “it” factor- your propitious ally.

The Dosha-friendly Rouge and Les Mains Hermès Spring-Summer 2024 collection harmonizes blues, oranges and magentas. These colors shape a natural path to Dosha Dressing for the sunshine seasons… even during April showers.

Portion of Mondrian’s Tableau I (1921) plays elegantly with primary colors. The divided harmony of grey, blue and yellow connect to the Hermès cases.

Evocative of Mondrian art, Pierre Hardy created architecturally stunning lipstick tubes and nail varnish caps that playfully coordinate ecstatic pigments. The formulation for the matte lipsticks have also improved since Hermès’ first(ish)* beauty release.

Three new matte lipsticks have a few standout ingredients for a lush look and feel. The first three components soften the lips. Silicone polymethylsilsesquioxane works with the emollients squalane and isononyl isononanoate to impart a more exuberant hydrated appearance. Extracting oils from cocoa or lavender for the latter is beneficial for delicate post-Winter lips. They added a touch of sesame seed extract, which stimulates and moisturizes both Kapha and Vata. A bit of aspirin in the form of salicin found in white willow or alba bark calms inflamed pouts. Made in Italy under strict EU cosmetic guidelines, the hint of crambe oil is surprising. Some speculation has floated around about dose-dependent toxicity of erucic acid, which is present at over 50% in its seeds.

Turn on your full momentum, Pitta, with Rouge Cinétique red. The blue case keeps you from getting out of control with your control.

Creative Vata speaks without, er, uhm, hesitation in Rose Pop, an indulgent pink fuchsia.

Kapha, eat a tangerine with Orange Néon. It will most likely smudge, but reapplication is fun with the green, orange and blue tube.

The orange lipstick has not been tested by our beauty editor. A similar matte color from their first 2020 collection was. The color was pretty, but the wear was terrible. (Image: Hermès)

Nail It

Hermès added red algae calcium to their French-made nail polish, which helps maintain nail health through mineral support of osteocytes. All colors are pretty on their own and can also be combined for several nail designs. Formulated with over 70% ingredients of "natural origin”, these are chip-challenged without a base or top coat.**

No need to be a shrinking violet during sunning seasons. Surya is calling Pitta to power up with magenta-esque Ultraviolet. Add some extra pranayama, garden strolls, or pair with an all beige look if the heat unduly rises.

Vata does not fret when their creativity is springing. Orange Tonique, a pinkish coral, is a perfect match. Use your artistic abilities to add Kapha’s blue polka dots if the Sunday Scaries creep up.

Bleu Électrique is exactly the kind of high voltage Kapha needs. There is nothing sullen about this blue. Switch it up by borrowing Vata’s coral orange during April showers.

Red. It is the color of life.
