10 Essentials + 1 Sparkler: Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Spring is a long-awaited, quintessential, sunshine-and-tulips season. Until April showers and unpredictable temps hit. One day NYC gave us sunny at 70, the next it was rainy and 40. That weather can’t hamper your wardrobe. Curating a capsule wardrobe for Spring is simple with standout basics.

Here are a few essentials to keep in the rotation and can most likely be found in your closet.  Our proclivities are not on the trend bandwagon. Classics and personalization are the epitome of style. From a shirtdress to minimalist sneakers, this line up for spring works with your doshas, too.

Dosha energy balance? Check.

The Shirtdress

A shirt dress is a must for all seasons. This one by JW Anderson x Uniqlo remains a staple in my wardrobe from Spring through Summer. I pair it what socks and the Frances Valentine sneakers. A colorful red sweatshirt for Spring chills can top this off neatly. The new JW x U collection has a similar style. Pitta-friendly blue stripes makes for an easy choice on frustrating days. The Crewneck

This sweatshirt is not so relaxed and can be worn dressed up or chilled out. Layered or on its own, it’s a go-to. Kapha-inviting red can throw it on when feeling lethargic or uninspired. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Minimal Sneaker

A tribute to  Kate spade with minimalist sneakers from her Frances Valentine brand. These remind me of childhood, they're comfy and go with a lot of Spring and Summer looks. I also like that these are not from an overplayed brand that everyone is wearing. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

the Neutral Blazer

A neutral blazer for anything from meetings to cocktails, this unique cut stands out. This is vintage Guess from high school. The beige is great to balance Pitta’s sometimes too colorful mood. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Loafer

My go-to loafer for errands are these Tod’s. These are drivers, but they have a city version. I love them worn in. It took around 10 years to get them this way. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

A classic white tee-shirt with the message of purpose. The $cientist T is from the first line created by Dr. Kuver with the expertise of People’s Choice design winner Joel Alexander. It is made locally in NYC by a small screen-printing shop that has seen more than Liza Minelli. Pair it with everything and look forward. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Sparkle Coat

An extra topper in place of a seen-everywhere trench. This is bespoke with unused tweed and silk from Oscar De La Renta. It is perfect for day and night. Warm enough to keep the chill away and light enough to prevent overheating. Vata-easing yellow is perfect over shirtdresses and topped with scarves. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Biker Jacket

I’ve worn this biker jacket since grad school. It’s great for day and evening wear. The quilting adds a lovely texture to its  ultra softness. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Tote

A not-so basic tote that basically gets the basics done. Weekdays to weekends , everything fits neatly and is light to carry. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)

The Silk Drawstring

Patterned pants add a bit more fun to the day. These drawstrings can be paired with loafers or a pair of boots you own. They are perfect for days when you need to wear pants, but also need the comfort of being at home. This also serves as a neutral base to pair with brighter colors or a muted head-to-toe look. The Denim Skirt

Taking it back with a flared denim skirt from Miss Sixty. I’ve had this for ages. It is versatile enough for meetings and after-lab hours. Pair it with the Scientist T and top with the neutral blazer. (Image: AKJAM Publishing)
